EMU Transformers
Indian Railways embarked on a mission to standardize the catenary voltage at 25 kV, leading to the discontinuation of EMUs operating on 1500 VDC in the Mumbai suburban network. Concurrently, Central Railways faced a significant shortage of racks required for their operations in Mumbai.

To address these challenges, an innovative solution was proposed: integrating transformers and rectifiers into the existing propulsion systems, while keeping all other components unchanged. This approach aimed to facilitate seamless transition to the standardized voltage, optimize operational efficiency, and ensure resource availability.
High Volt Electricals took on this ambitious challenge, spearheading the study of existing systems, defining specifications, designing prototypes, and conducting field trials on motor coaches—all within a tight timeline of three months.
We are proud to be pioneers and the primary suppliers of this specialized equipment under the project for Indian Railways, contributing to the modernization and efficiency of India’s railway infrastructure.
Our EMU Transformer solutions exemplify innovation, reliability, and our commitment to supporting Indian Railways’ evolving needs.
